United States President, Joe Biden, recently voiced his opinion that Israel is gradually forfeiting international support due to its non-discriminatory bombings in Gaza.
During a fundraising event on Tuesday where he communicated with donors, the President voiced his most severe disapproval yet of Israeli authorities’ actions.
Since 7 October when Hamas initiated their attacks, Biden has been unwaveringly supportive of Israel. He issued a stern caution to Israel’s administration while reemphasizing the U.S.’ continual support.
“Israel can rely on the United States for its security, but currently they have broader international support encompassing the European Union, basically all of Europe, and most of the world,” he stated at his 2024 re-election campaign event in Washington.
“The reckless bombings are causing them to progressively lose this international backing,” he added.
Biden expressed that there was an “undeniable necessity to confront Hamas”, and affirmed that Israel was entirely within its rights to do so.
The President is facing escalating pressure from his own Democratic Party and others to moderate Israel’s military aggression. His recent comments align with his administration’s updated strategy in the ongoing conflict, urging Israel to prioritize saving lives and to provide clear directives to allow residents to escape the combat zones.
Senior U.S officials have also begun to express dissatisfaction with the Israeli military’s approach.
According to the Gaza health ministry, which is run by Hamas, over 18,400 individuals have been killed in Israeli airstrikes since 7 October, when Hamas breached Israel’s heavily guarded border and caused 1,200 fatalities.
Reacting to Biden’s comments on Tuesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had received the U.S.’ complete endorsement for their ground campaign and objectives of decimating Hamas and releasing hostages.
He also added that the U.S. had thwarted “international calls to end the war.”
“Certainly, viewpoints vary on the issue of ‘post-Hamas scenario’, but I remain hopeful that we can also reach a consensus on this matter,” declared Netanyahu.
